The Creation of a Supplementary Reading Entitled Place Names of Chaiya, Our Amazing Old Hometown for Grade 6 Students of Wat Bangkhram School in Surat Thani Province

Abstract

The objectives of this independent study were to (1) create a supplementary reading entitled Place Names of Chaiya, Our Amazing Old Hometown for Grade 6 students at Wat Bangkhram School in Surat Thani province; and (2) to verify the quality of the created supplementary reading.The key research informants in the study consisted of three Thai language experts and 10 Grade 6 students at Wat BangKhram School in Surat Thani province, all of whom were purposively selected. The employed study tools were (1) a scale to assess quality of the supplementary reading for the experts; and (2) a questionnaire on students’ opinions towards the supplementary reading. Statistics employed for data analysis were the mean, and standard deviation.The findings of the study revealed that (1) the supplementary reading entitled Place Names of Chaiya, Our Amazing Old Hometown for Grade 6 students at Wat Bangkhram School in Surat Thani province had contents comprising six chapters as follows: Chapter 1: General Condition of Chaiya District, Surat Thani Province; Chapter 2: Analysis of Place Names; Chapter 3: Place Names Created After Plant Names Growing in the Village Locations; Chapter 4: Place Names Created After Landscape Characteristics; Chapter 5: Place Names Created After More than Two Types of Names; and Chapter 6: Creation of Village Names Based on Other Causes; each chapter had illustrations, glossary, and end-of-chapter activities; and (2) regarding results of quality verification of the supplementary reading, it was found that both the Thai language experts and the students had opinions that the overall quality of the supplementary reading was appropriate at the highest level.

การศึกษาค้นคว้าอิสระครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ (1) การสร้างหนังสือส่งเสริมการอ่าน เรื่อง ภูมินามไชยาบ้านเรา เมืองเก่าน่ารู้ สำหรับนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 6 โรงเรียนวัดบางคราม จังหวัด สุราษฎร์ธานี และ (2) ตรวจสอบคุณภาพของหนังสือส่งเสริมการอ่านที่สร้างขึ้นผู้ให้ข้อมูลในการศึกษา ได้แก่ ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านภาษาไทย จำนวน 3 คน และนักเรียน ชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 6 โรงเรียนวัดบางคราม จังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี จำนวน 10 คน ได้มาโดยการเลือกแบบเจาะจง เครื่องมือที่ใช้ได้แก่ (1) แบบประเมินคุณภาพหนังสือสำหรับผู้เชี่ยวชาญ และ (2) แบบสอบถามความคิดเห็นของนักเรียนที่มีต่อหนังสือส่งเสริมการอ่าน สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ได้แก่ ค่าเฉลี่ย และส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐานผลการศึกษาปรากฏว่า (1) หนังสือส่งเสริมการอ่าน เรื่อง ภูมินามไชยาบ้านเรา เมืองเก่า น่ารู้ สำหรับนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 6 โรงเรียนวัดบางคราม จังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี ประกอบด้วยเนื้อหา 6 บท ได้แก่ บทที่ 1: สภาพทั่วไปของอำเภอไชยา จังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี บทที่ 2: วิเคราะห์ภูมินาม บทที่ 3: ภูมินามตั้งตามชื่อพันธุ์ไม้ บอกถึงพันธุ์ไม้ที่ขึ้นอยู่ในบริเวณที่ตั้งหมู่บ้าน บทที่ 4: ภูมินามตั้งตามลักษณะภูมิประเทศ บทที่ 5: ภูมินามตั้งตามตั้งชื่อ 2 ประเภทขึ้นไป และ บทที่ 6: การตั้งชื่อหมู่บ้านด้วยสาเหตุอื่น ๆ แต่ละบทมีภาพประกอบ คำอธิบายศัพท์และกิจกรรมท้ายเรื่อง และ (2) ผลการตรวจสอบคุณภาพของหนังสือ พบว่า ผู้เชี่ยวชาญและนักเรียนมีความคิดเห็นว่า คุณภาพในภาพรวมของหนังสือส่งเสริมการอ่านมีความเหมาะสมในระดับมากที่สุด
