The Conflict of Political Ideology in TV series “The Eclipse”

Abstract

The objectives of this study were (1) to understand the political ideology in the TV series “The Eclipse” and (2) to study the context of political ideological conflicts in Thailand during 2020–2021 as reflected through the TV series “The Eclipse”.This study was qualitative research utilizing documentary methods, employing concepts and theories to analyze political ideology and authoritarianism to understand the drama script and context of the TV series “The Eclipse". The descriptive analysis and content analysis were applied, particularly to the political ideology and the context of political ideological conflicts in Thailand during 2020–2021, as reflected through the TV series.The study found that (1) the TV series “The Eclipse” was a simulation of Thai society in the term of a school under the long-established rules and powers. The content was related to political ideological conflicts through dialogues and symbolic expressions in the story, such as a liberal democratic political ideology, a conservative political ideology, and various forms of authoritarianism. (2) Thai society was under a democratic regime and inherently conservative in politics, economics, and society, resulting in differences in ideology and political conflicts in Thai society. The TV series “The Eclipse” could reflect and satirize the political conflicts in 2020–2021 between liberal and conservative political ideologies, focusing on allowing viewers to analyze and become aware of rights, freedoms, and equality in Thai society.

การศึกษาวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา (1) อุดมการณ์ทางการเมืองที่ปรากฏในภาพยนตร์ชุดทางโทรทัศน์ เรื่อง คาธ (2) บริบทความขัดแย้งอุดมการณ์ทางการเมืองของไทยในช่วงระหว่าง พ.ศ.2563 -2564 ที่สะท้อนผ่านภาพยนตร์ชุดทางโทรทัศน์ เรื่อง คาธ งานวิจัยนี้เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ รูปแบบการวิจัยเป็นการวิจัยเชิงเอกสาร โดยใช้แนวคิดและทฤษฎีวิเคราะห์ภาพยนตร์การเมือง อุดมการณ์ทางการเมือง และอำนาจนิยมในการวิเคราะห์ตัวบทและบริบทของภาพยนตร์ชุดทางโทรทัศน์เรื่อง คาธ ซึ่งเป็นการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลในรูปแบบเชิงพรรณนาและวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลเชิงเนื้อหาในประเด็นอุดมการณ์ทางการเมือง และบริบทความขัดแย้งอุดมการณ์ทางการเมืองของไทยในช่วง พ.ศ.2563 -2564 ที่สะท้อนผ่านภาพยนตร์ฯผลการวิจัยพบว่า (1) ภาพยนตร์ชุดทางโทรทัศน์เรื่อง คาธ เป็นการจำลองสังคมไทยในลักษณะของโรงเรียนภายใต้กฎระเบียบและอำนาจที่มีมาอย่างยาวนาน โดยมีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวข้องกับความขัดแย้งอุดมการณ์ทางการเมืองผ่านบทสนทนาและการแสดงออกเชิงสัญลักษณ์ในเรื่อง ได้แก่ อุดมการณ์ทางการเมืองแบบเสรีนิยมประชาธิปไตย และอุดมการณ์ทางการเมืองแบบอนุรักษนิยม รวมถึงอำนาจนิยมในรูปแบบต่าง ๆ (2) สังคมไทยที่อยู่ภายใต้ระบอบประชาธิปไตย และแฝงความเป็นอนุรักษนิยมทั้งด้านการเมือง เศรษฐกิจ และสังคม ส่งผลให้เกิดความแตกต่างของอุดมการณ์ และความขัดแย้งทางการเมืองในสังคมไทย ภาพยนตร์ชุดทางโทรทัศน์ เรื่องคาธ เป็นการนำเสนอที่สะท้อนและเสียดสีความขัดแย้งทางการเมืองในปี พ.ศ.2563 – 2564 ระหว่างอุดมการณ์ทางการเมืองแบบเสรีนิยมและอุดมการณ์ทางการเมืองแบบอนุรักษนิยม โดยมุ่งเน้นให้ผู้ชมได้คิดวิเคราะห์ตาม และเกิดความตระหนักในเรื่องของสิทธิ เสรีภาพ และความเสมอภาคในสังคมไทย
